I help parents get support for their children who are ‘not fine in school’ by providing low demand, online occupational therapy assessments

  • Is your child out of school or struggling at school?
  • Are you desperate for things to be better but you feel powerless?
  • Do you wish you understood your child’s strengths and challenges more?
  • Do you need evidence to demonstrate their support needs?

Then an occupational therapy assessment could be right for your child.

I specialise in working with neurodivergent children who no longer can attend school or are struggling in school. In particular those who are or who are thought to be:

  • Demand avoidant / PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance)
  • Autistic (previously called autism spectrum disorder)
  • Dyspraxic (or developmental coordination disorder)

Are you looking for a professional who ‘gets it’?

I know the challenge of trying to get the right help for your child. Whether its evidence for an EHCP, getting school to make adaptations, seeking a diagnosis or getting access to disability benefits I can help you.

I have both personal and professional experience of supporting children and their families to get the support they need. And it all starts with a low demand, neuroaffirmative professional assessment.

An Occupational therapy assessment can help you:

Understand your child’s unique make up – their strengths, challenges and differences

The assessment will look at your child’s gross and fine motor skills, sensory profile, self-care skills, and communication and play preferences using a neuro-affirmative approach.

Work out what adaptations can be made at home and school to make life easier

My focus in on making changes to the environment and activity, not trying to change or ‘fix’ your child.

Advocate for reasonable adjustments to be made

All the assessment packages come with a comprehensive report. This report will explain the reasoning behind the things your child finds difficult. This can give you confidence in advocating for your child, as your requests are backed up by a professional.

Provide evidence towards a diagnosis, EHCP or DLA claim

I know that it is a slow, hard journey to get support for your child. I know that you have to provide reports from professionals to evidence your child’s needs. This can involve length waiting lists or high fees.

At Neurodivergent Kids OT you can find timely and affordable assessments and reports that can be used as evidence towards a diagnosis of autism or DCD, a Disability Living Allowance claim, a request to assess for an EHCP or Section B and Section  F of an EHCP.

I ‘get it’

I have two autistic PDA children myself and have battled the SEND system since 2018. During that time I’ve navigated DLA claims, the EHCP process and getting an EOTAS package for my children. (Read more about my story here). So I know all too well the challenges you face in trying to get the right support for your child.

When assessing children who are demand avoidant, I reduce all demands as much as possible.

Neuro-affirmative approach

I work primarily from a strengths-based approach and not a deficit model. I recognise and affirm the unique communication, cognitive and play skills your child has.

Assessments start at £95. A limited number of discounted assessments are available to low income families.

Accessible

Assessments are online which means less stress, no travel time, less time of work and school, and a more relaxed experience in the comfort of your own home.

Tailored

I understand that many parents may themselves be dyslexic, dyspraxia, autistic, demand avoidant and that you have your own communication preferences. Where possible I offer a variety of ways for you to give me information about your child from voice notes, to diagrams, online meetings as well as the traditional forms.
